Uncoated Weathering Steel — Aesthetics
Where does uncoated weathering steel (UWS) look good?
Almost anywhere!Often among the most visually distinct landmarks on any roadway, bridges do more than just draw the eyes of commuters and passersby—they make for some of the most memorable elements in any panorama they’re a part of. Here are a handful of examples of uncoated weathering steel bridges, showcasing how UWS can blend naturally into any environment.
UWS is…:
- aesthetically appealing. If you’re not convinced, take a look at these examples.
- economical. There is no corrosion protection system to apply after fabrication, nor is there a future cost for maintaining an applied protection system over the life of the bridge.
- proven. American bridges have used UWS for over 50 years, and their record is excellent.
- easy to maintain."96% of the existing UWS bridges in the U.S. have a condition rating of 6 or better, and over 50% have a condition rating of 8 or better! An overwhelming majority of UWS bridges have been performing quite well across the U.S."*
